UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK is travelling to more towns and cities this month with a roadshow offering people of all ages – including schoolchildren, educators and families - the opportunity to get a taste of what the programme is about.

The UNBOXED roadshow is free to attend and will first visit Leicester on Saturday 17 September, where it will be in Highcross Shopping Centre as part of this year’s British Scientist Festival.

Suitable for families, people will use green screen technology to zoom through the solar system with UNBOXED project Our Place in Space, which has seen thousands of people walk from the Sun to Pluto recreated as an almost 10km sculpture trail in Belfast, Cambridge and Derry-Londonderry.

There is the opportunity to take part in a series of fun interactive activities involving colour, music, illusion and more, as part of a unique project developed as part of Dreamachine, the artwork you ‘see’ with your eyes closed, which has wowed audiences in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London. By taking part, you’ll learn about your own powers of perception and help map the fascinating diversity of the human mind.

There will also be a quiz, inspired by About Us, the spectacular light and sound installation presenting out history from the Big Bang to the present day, which thousands of people saw in Caernarfon, Derry-Londonderry, Hull, Luton and Paisley earlier this year.

In addition, there will be free apps to download - for PoliNations, which is now drawing large crowds in Birmingham, Our Place in Space and the immersive storytelling project StoryTrails - enabling people to experience UNBOXED projects on their mobile devices.

The UNBOXED roadshow is also going to the beachfront at Weston-super-Mare (19-25 September) where SEE MONSTER is currently transforming from a decommissioned North Sea offshore platform into a massive public artwork; the ASDC National Conference in Glasgow (28-29 September); New Scientist Live in London (7-9 October); IF, the Oxford Science + Ideas Festival (15-16 October); and the BEYOND conference in Cardiff (19 October).

Martin Green, Chief Creative Officer at UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK, comments: “The UNBOXED roadshow was a big hit at the Big Bang Fair earlier this year, with almost 30,000 schoolchildren got the opportunity to explore the science and technology behind UNBOXED projects. It’s suitable for people of all ages, whether you’re at school, and educator, bringing a family, or simply interested in bold ideas exploring who we are and where we are going. And of course, it’s free.”
