This lesson plan introduces pupils aged 7–11 to seven women whose work is currently changing the world.
Pupils will first learn the meaning of STEAM – Science, Technology Engineering, Arts and Maths – before considering how it might relate to their future ambitions. They’ll discover and discuss some key attributes that might be useful for a career linked to STEAM: adaptability, creativity and teamwork, for example.
Finally, they’ll meet seven women who are all working to help our environment through their STEAM careers – including climate scientist Dr Ella Gilbert, shipping pioneer Diane Gilpin and chartered engineer Yewande Akinola – before making a poster celebrating their work.
This lesson plan is inspired by SEE MONSTER, a major public art installation designed to encourage conversations about our sustainable future.
