Today, following the grant of planning permission, the creators of SEE MONSTER reveal that preparations for the arrival of this unique large-scale public artwork for Weston-super-Mare will begin on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.

SEE MONSTER, part of UNBOXED 2022: Creativity in the UK, will see the historic seafront Tropicana site play host to the world’s first and only repurposed North Sea offshore rig dramatically transformed into a world-class art installation. Visitors will be able to journey up the 35-metre platform to the highest viewing point along the South West coast of England.

Mark Canniford, Executive Member for Placemaking and Economy at North Somerset Council, said: “Following planning consent, we are excited to see preparations start on SEE MONSTER and witness this breath-taking installation start to take shape. Hosting the Monster offers an opportunity to reach out to a wider audience and show people what Weston-super-Mare has to offer. Weston is rich in culture, arts and heritage and we want to continue to ride the cultural wave that is taking place in the town.”
