Some lifeforms in our world depend on other lifeforms to survive and thrive. Suitable for pupils aged 7–16, this interdisciplinary learning resource uses creative writing, literature and science to consider symbiotic relationships in nature.

Start by reading a new poem by writer Caleb Parkin, comedy improviser Jane Hills and marine biologist Isla Keesje Davidson, which explores the relationship between coral reefs and algae. Then, using the seven-page PDF learning plan, encourage pupils to further explore the ideas, themes and techniques of the poem by making a mind map, conducting a mock interview and/or creating their own poem.
