Our bodies are filled with nine pints of blood – but what does it do and why is it important? Suitable for pupils aged 7–14, this interdisciplinary lesson programme encourages pupils to consider the blood in all our bodies: first from a scientific perspective, and then through Celeste Herriotts’ poem Blood.

The six-page lesson programme provides prompts to explore different aspects of writing and poetry, from metaphor to the use of different voices. There are also prompts that encourage pupils to write their own poems inspired by what they’ve learned.
