Litter is irritating – but is it also dangerous? Can you think of creative ways to encourage people to stop littering? This interdisciplinary lesson programme for pupils aged 7–14 considers human impacts on the environment – with key reference to the impact of litter on birds.

Start by introducing the topic and then reading a new poem by Aliyah Begum, formerly Birmingham’s Young Poet Laureate. The five-page PDF resource contains plenty of discussion prompts, plus encouragement for pupils to write their own poems about litter and/or explore some of the techniques that Aliyah uses in her poem.
