Encourage your pupils to find a creative new use for a redundant place, building or object in this activity for young people aged 11–14.
The lesson plan begins by discussing the linked but distinct concepts of reusing, redesigning and repurposing, and explores how creativity can bring new life to obsolete items, buildings and places. It also introduces SEE MONSTER, a disused North Sea oil rig repurposed into a major art installation as part of UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK.
Using SEE MONSTER as an example, encourage pupils to think about a familiar object or nearby place that could also be transformed. The most creative and exciting ideas will feature on SEE MONSTER’s social media accounts.
