Duration

20 minutes

This activity helps pupils aged 11–14 to understand how the weather is connected to our sources of energy, and how we can use our knowledge of the weather to reduce our carbon footprint.

The lesson plan introduces pupils to the differences between windmills and wind turbines, and tests what they know about solar power with a true-or-false quiz. After discussing the UK’s different energy sources and the differences between renewables and non-renewables, pupils are encouraged to keep a record of the weather over the next two weeks – and to think about how this weather might affect the availability of different energy sources.

The activity is inspired by SEE MONSTER, a major public art installation designed to encourage conversations about our sustainable future.
