Inventing the future

GALWAD: A story from our future is an extraordinary immersion into tomorrow. Unfolding in real time on TV, online and on location, this pioneering project has invented a new kind of storytelling experience for our times.

GALWAD is a dynamic story of contemporary Wales and its vision for the future – created by more than 400 performers, writers, artists and other creatives in collaboration with more than 150 individuals from communities across the nation.

GALWAD’s inspiration is the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015, landmark legislation that requires public bodies to consider the long-term impact of their decisions. Rooted in a future world imagined in response to the possible consequences of rising global temperatures, GALWAD shows how new forms of storytelling can create emotional bonds between us and future generations.

More than 5.5 million people in 149 countries connected with GALWAD as it unfolded live across seven days – 167 pieces of content in English, Welsh and BSL, distributed on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and YouTube, with broadcasts on Sky Arts, S4C, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Radio Wales. Missed it live? Watch on demand for free.

GALWAD: A story from our future is co-commissioned by Creative Wales.

Where and when

GALWAD unfolded in real time online, on TV and live from Wales over seven consecutive days in September and October 2022, culminating in a special broadcast on Sky Arts.

I’m pleased to see local talent playing their part to bring this story to audiences across the country.
