Fast-forward 30 years with a compelling story unfolding on TV, on digital and on location across Wales.
GALWAD: A story from our future is a multiplatform, multilingual story set in a possible future world of 2052 – which will come alive on TV, on digital screens and across Wales in September 2022.
We’re inviting you to step into 2052 to follow the GALWAD story as it unfolds over seven days – building to live events in Blaenau Ffestiniog, Merthyr Tydfil and Swansea. This journey into the future is inspired by The Well-Being of Future Generations (Wales) Act, a remarkable piece of legislation that puts the rights of future generations at the heart of public decision-making in Wales.
GALWAD (meaning ‘call’ in Welsh) is bringing together Wales’s boldest talent in film, TV, creative technologies and live performance with the imagination and talents of communities across Wales – who are teaming up to imagine life in 2052 and create the fictional world that will frame the story. This ground-breaking world-building process is being led by Alex McDowell, the award-winning production designer of films including Minority Report and Director of the World Building Institute.
You’ll be able to follow this compelling tale wherever you are in the UK online and on TV, and in person on location in Wales. Join us to explore the moral dilemmas of our future – and the possibilities it may present to us all.
GALWAD: A story from our future is co-commissioned by UNBOXED and Creative Wales. It is produced by Collective Cymru, a pan-Wales partnership led by National Theatre Wales and including the Centre for Alternative Technology, Clwstwr, Disability Arts Cymru, Ffilm Cymru, Frân Wen and Sugar Creative.
