About Us is a spectacular light, sound and video show that will leave you looking up in awe!
For one week only, About Us will transform Queen Victoria Square with dazzling projection-mapped animation, poetry, music, and beautiful live choral singing from Hull’s very own Freedom Chorus. The free open-air experience explores our infinite connections to our planet, the wider cosmos and each other.
When is it?
The event is on every night, 9.30pm until 11pm, from Saturday 30 April until Friday 6 May.
During the daytime, from 10am onwards, the About Us show area will be open to the public to explore. Large video screen plinths will be exhibiting content created in partnership with people from each of the five locations that the show is visiting as part of its UK tour.
How long is it?
The show lasts 25 minutes and runs multiple times throughout the evening from 9.30pm until 11pm. There will also be a relaxed performance at 10.35pm on Tuesday 3 May.
How much is it?
It’s free.
On 3 May at 10.35pm there will be a relaxed performance that takes place with lower levels of lighting and quieter sound effects in order to reduce stress for audience members who may find the show overwhelming. There will be braille sheets of the text in the show as well as audio descriptions provided by VocalEyes. There is also a hearing loop and BSL interpretation available.
What to expect
On selected evenings, Hull city centre will come to life with live music, entertainment and fun for everyone, thanks to Back to Ours, The Sesh and Hammonds of Hull.
Back to Ours will be out and about Saturday 30th April, Sunday 1 May and Friday 6th May 6pm - 9pm, whizzing between The Interchange and Jameson Street, with some of their all-time favourite walkabout acts and characters. Look out for Elton Wrong, Apus Birds, Enchanted Flower, Top Tier Brass plus lots more to get you warmed up before About Us.
Head to Hammonds Food Hall and Jameson Street from 2-9pm on Saturday 30 April and Sunday 1 May, and 6-9pm Monday 2 May to Friday 6 May to enjoy some food and drinks with your family and friends to enjoy some of the very best local acts before About Us.
